Intrepid explorer takes a swim in Sassolo Lake’s ice caves

This breathtaking image of an underwater maze inside a glacier in Sassolo Lake, Switzerland was taken by an intrepid explorer in freezing temperatures.

Photographer Franco Banfi regularly braves sub-zero temperatures to dive under thick ice and capture remarkable pictures at considerable risk to his life. The glaciers create extraordinary underwater caves and passages due to changes in temperature between the summer and winter months.

“Day to Night” 15-hours-Photo
